If you ever thought about taking a first trip to Walt Disney World, or better yet, going back, there’s never been a better time. So many great things are happening in the parks and there’s so much more yet to come. I never need a reason to visit Walt Disney World. It’s my happy place and I love the magic I get to share with my family. In case you are trying to convince your spouse, mother, sister, brother, or yourself that you really need to go on a trip to Walt Disney World next year, here are 18 reasons to visit in 2018.

- Toy Story Land is opening! Get ready to join Andy and all his friends is a brand-new area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. There will be a family roller coaster called Slinky Dog Dash and an Alien Swirling Saucers attraction. The land is scheduled to open the summer of 2018. Although an exact date hasn’t been released yet, it would make sense to have the land open on May 1, 2018, the 29thanniversary of the original Disney-MGM Studios. Although we’re hearing the target data may be close to July… who knows?! It’s anyones guess!
- Great experiences are on the way! Huge announcements were made at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California July 14-16th. So many amazing attractions and experiences are coming to the Disney parks over the next several years. Expect to see a Tron rollercoaster and new theater debut at Magic Kingdom as well as several new attractions (Ratatouille and Guardians of the Galaxy themed) open in Epcot. When new attractions are created, sometimes old things are removed or changed. With these major developments, you can bet more and more people will be flocking to the Walt Disney World Resort. Spring and Fall of 2018 might be the last time for a while to visit without navigating major crowds, plus, you’ll get to see some of your favorite attractions in case they disappear.
- Epcot has a new dessert party! The Frozen Ever After Dessert Party replaced the IllumiNations Sparkling Dessert Party this summer. Desserts and beverages are Frozen themed with delicious treats such as Olaf’s Warm Double Chocolate S’mores Pudding Cake, Anna’s Blue Velvet Cupcakes, and Sven’s Fresh Fruits & Berries. After IllumiNations, guests can ride Frozen Ever After in Norway, without having to use a FastPass! This is a great new way to celebrate a special occasion and get an extra FastPass at the same time.
- Disney Springs will have eight new dining locations for your 2018 enjoyment! First, Terralina Crafted Italian will replace Portobello Country Italian Trattoria in The Landing near Paddlefish by the fall of 2017. The Edison will open on New Years Eve – Dec 31, 2017 after much anticipation. We expect Mario & Enzo’s Ristorante, Enzo’s Hideaway Tunnel Bar, and Pizza Ponte to open at the start of the year. Wine Bar George will open in 2018 and will feature over 100 wine selections and shareable plates. The Edison will have American cuisine, craft drinks, and live entertainment. In 2018, Jaleo will open on the West Side and deliver a menu with a Spanish flair. Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill will also open sometime in 2018 in Town Center. That’s a lot of good eatin’ coming your way!
REASON #5 – PANDORA IS OPEN! PHOTO BY WAYNE WOOD.
- Pandora- The World of AVATAR just opened on May 27, 2017. It’s been a popular place this summer with lines for Flight of Passage often at a 120-minute wait. It’s also been nearly impossible to adopt a banshee of your very own. Next year, the masses should die down to a more manageable level as the novelty wears off a little. If you didn’t get there this year, 2018 would be the perfect time to experience the newest land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
- There is a new transportation option to make your trip even more personalized. Disney just unveiled Minnie Vans that can transport guests to various places around Disney property. The vans are in testing phase at select locations right now, so when you visit in 2018, they will most likely be all over the Walt Disney World Resort. Sounds like 2018 is a great time to make early morning breakfast reservations without worrying about how to get there! (Note: This is not a free transportation service. The current one-way price is $20.)
REASON #6 – MINNIE VANS ARE A COOL WAY TO TRAVEL! PHOTO COURTESY OF DISNEY PARKS BLOG.
- A parade replacement? This may be more hope than what will actually happen, but Magic Kingdom has been without a nighttime parade since the fall of 2016. Although nothing was revealed at D23, Disney always makes surprise announcements throughout the year. Here’s to hoping that by 2018, there is a new nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom. (Fingers crossed with a sprinkle of Pixie Dust!)
- It’s a cost-effective decision. You should visit in 2018 because it’s only going to get more expensive. Even with discounts that seem to happen at certain times each year, prices will only increase as time goes on. If you go in 2018 it will be cheaper than if you wait for 2019 or beyond!
REASON #9 – A NEW EXPERIENCE AT MISSION: SPACE! PHOTO BY MAPLE DISNEY.
- Lots of refurbishments will be completed. Mission: SPACE added a new mission to “soar around Earth” as well as a new kid-friendly Green Mission, in 2017. Hall of Presidents, just reopened this week. Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mountain, and the Liberty Square Riverboat are all getting updates early this year – plus a new UP themed show is on its way to Animal Kingdom!
- There’s always something new to see. This is true even if you visit Walt Disney World every year. It’s impossible to see everything each time you visit. On top of that, Disney is always releasing new or limited time events. 2017 saw the replacement of Wishes with Happily Ever After. The Magic Kingdom also welcomed The Muppets Present…Great Moments in American History and iCan the SHOWBOT. Disney’s Hollywood Studios debuted Disney Movie Magic and a new meet and greet with Star Lord baby Groot. There’s always something new to see and do.
REASON #12 – MICKEY’S NOT SO SCARY HALLOWEEN PARTY AND OTHER SPECIAL EVENTS! PHOTO BY WAYNE WOOD.PHOTO BY BRETT SVENSON
- Special occasions don’t happen all the time, and when they do, you want to celebrate them in a way you will never forget. Whether it is a birthday milestone, graduation, anniversary, or a goal you have met such as weight loss, beating cancer, or getting your black belt in karate- there is no better place to celebrate than at Disney World.
- There are extraordinary annual events such as Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Both parties offer meet and greets with rare characters (the Christmas Party has been known to have all seven dwarfs at once!) and specialty merchandise and desserts. If you haven’t taken part in one of these exciting special events, you might want to go in 2018.
REASON #13 – YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU’LL HAVE TO SAY GOODBYE TO A FAVORITE! PHOTO BY WAYNE WOOD.PHOTO BY MIKE BILLICK.
- You never know when your favorite attraction might go bye-bye. Stitch’s Great Escape and La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil will be gone forever by year’s end. Not to mention, the Great Movie Ride and Ellen’s Energy Adventure at Epcot closed in 2017 with only a short notice before their end dates. The point is, there’s rarely a warning and you never know when something you really like might be gone for good.
- Many resorts are being upgraded! Disney’s Pop Century is currently undergoing an entire room renovation refurbishment. By May2018, all rooms will be converted to a fresh-new design. (About half the resort is done now.) Disney’s Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs have been involved in refurbishments for months with completion expected in 2019. That gives you at least three resorts with a fresh facelift for your enjoyment!
REASON #16 – FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS IS BACK! PHOTO COURTESY OF LEAH SIKES.
- It’s the best bang for your buck. A trip to Walt Disney World is really the ultimate vacation spot. Once you’ve paid for your room and tickets, the main part of your vacation is taken care of. The only thing left to worry about is your food and souvenirs. Where else can you go where all your entertainment is included?
- The return of a new event. The Epcot International Festival of the Arts was a huge success in 2017 and is returning in 2018 featuring Broadway performers, incredible artists, lots of workshops and amazing food.
REASON #17 – THESE ARE NOT THE CROWDS YOU’RE LOOKING FOR. STAR WARS LAND CONCEPT ART COURTESY OF DISNEY PARKS BLOG.
- 2019 is going to be insane! When the new Star Wars Land (recently named Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge) opens, the parks are expected to be crowded. Extremely crowded. A lot more crowded than usual. If crowds aren’t your thing, plan a visit for 2018, then wait a few years before you return.
- You need to go in 2018 because of the magical feeling you get from being at Disney World. Anyone who has ever visited knows the feeling when you walk through the gates and see Cinderella Castle for the first or fiftieth time. It’s the feeling of pure happiness. Your heart will thank you.
With 18 reasons to visit Walt Disney World in 2018, do you really need any more? Disney is constantly adding and renovating and this is only the tip of what 2018 will bring. In fact, 2017 saw many additions throughout the year including The Music of Pixar Live!- featuring a live symphony playing all of your favorite Pixar songs. What reason do you have for visiting? With all the new restaurants in Disney Springs, attractions being added to the theme parks, and resort upgrades, you may need more than a week!

Orlando’s Dining Scene Takes Center Stage for Magical Dining Month

By Kristen Manieri
Just in case you’re hungry, Magical Dining Month is back with Orlando’s annual time to shine a spotlight on the area’s best restaurants and chefs. This year, more than 90 restaurants will participate from August 29 through October 2, each serving an appetizer, entrée and dessert for a delicious $33.

Once again, new Orlando restaurants have jumped on board, adding to the continuous excitement of this annual epicurean celebration. And while buzz-worthy newcomers (including 2016 additions STK, Morimoto Asia, Urbain 40 and Cask & Larder) help to keep the program fresh, they join a long list of excellent Orlando-area restaurants, a few of which have been participating in Magical Dining Month since the very beginning.

That list includes Emeril’s Tchoup Chop, a beautifully bedazzled restaurant inside the Loews Royal Pacific Resort where an artful array of fusion cuisine takes diners on an epicurean expedition through Asia and Polynesia. This year, Tchoup Chop will present a series of whimsical dishes, including a Kalua Pork Poutine, and Hawaiian Style Paella.

Another longtime favorite, Everglades Restaurant at the Rosen Center Hotel joined Magical Dining Month in its first year and continues to wow diners with its nod to native Florida cuisine through dishes like Alligator Bay Chowder and Key Lime Pie, both of which are offered on its Magical Dining menu this year.
It’s worth noting how many spectacular participating restaurants are located in hotels and resorts, where chefs rival those cooking in independent, boutique restaurants in downtown Orlando and Winter Park.

A few standouts include The Kitchen at the Hard Rock Hotel, Mama Della’s Ristorante inside Loews Portofino Bay, Todd English’s Bluezoo at Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, deep blu seafoodgrille at Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort and Urban Tide inside Hyatt Regency Orlando.
Not only do these restaurants regularly receive dining awards and praise from local critics, but they are some of the most beautifully designed restaurants in the area, making them an ideal choice for date night. And of course, for those staying in Orlando’s hotels and resorts, it makes enjoying a Magical dinner out all the more convenient.

So, definitely use Magical Dining Month to explore Orlando’s’ newest culinary superstars. But don’t forget to discover some hidden gems that may have escaped your notice. With prix-fixe menus priced so affordably, it’s your chance to savor Orlando’s burgeoning culinary scene and decide for yourself which ones rise to the top.

Orlando LEGOLAND Resort Announces All-New Additions
ORLANDO LEGOLAND Resort announced earlier this week an unprecedented slate of projects that will deliver additional on-site accommodations, an immersive new theme park land with a cutting-edge, interactive attraction, the first-ever expansion of its water park, a new, action-packed “4D” theatrical attraction and an all-new summertime event filled with fireworks and special entertainment, giving guests even more reasons to play – and stay – at the place #BuiltForKids:
NEW! LEGOLAND Beach Retreat – opening mid-2017
This whimsically themed vacation resort combines the fun of surf, sand and sun with the creativity of LEGO® bricks on a picturesque site next to Lake Dexter, adjacent to the theme park. Distinguished by a colorful LEGO lighthouse, the village-style, lakefront resort will feature 83 single-story duplex units, offering 166 separate accommodations that sleep up to five.
Designed with the same combination of imagination and kid-centric detail that made the 10-month-old LEGOLAND Hotel an immediate hit, the all-new LEGOLAND Beach Retreat offers a great way for larger families and friends to vacation together. Amenities will include a themed pool, a sandy play area, a buffet-style restaurant and complimentary transportation to and from the theme park.
NEW! LEGO NINJAGO World – opening early 2017
Inspired by the popular series of LEGO building sets and the long-running TV show “LEGO NINJAGO: Masters of Spinjitzu,” this all-new, fully immersive theme park land invites guests to step into a magical, martial arts kingdom where they’ll experience a first-of-its-kind attraction that blends eye-popping, 3D computer animation, “4D” atmospheric effects and groundbreaking technology by Montreal-based Triotech.
On LEGO NINJAGO The Ride, up to four guests per vehicle blast animated fireballs, lightning, shockwaves and ice using nothing more than their hands as they travel through dojos mastering their skills before teaming up to defeat a powerful villain. Riders collect points and scores are displayed when each quest is complete. The thrilling attraction is the epicenter of a new area featuring multiple hands-on, interactive experiences that will hone kids’ physical skills like NINJAGO heroes Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane and Nya, before their ultimate test on LEGO NINJAGO The Ride.
NEW! Creative Cove featuring Build-A-Boat – now open
A fun expansion area at the Orlando LEGOLAND Water Park adds a brand-new attraction, Build-A-Boat, where kids can create and race LEGO watercraft through fast-flowing rivers alongside cheering crowds in a setting inspired by the popular LEGO City Coast Guard sets. Nearby, the existing Imagination Station lets little ones build and play with colorful DUPLO® bricks in a water-filled activity center. Additional dining offerings, increased seating capacity and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the entire water park round out the all-new offerings for 2016.
NEW! “LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS 4D: The Book of Creativity” – opening May 26, 2016
Set in the futuristic Kingdom of Knighton, this all-new theatrical attraction pits five young knights against the evil Jestro and his sidekick, the Book of Monsters, in a battle for control of a rare book of magic that gives its owner tremendous power. Based on the new LEGO series of building sets and the just-launched TV show, the 12½-minute, immersive experience combines 3D computer animation with “4D,” real-world effects that bring the high-tech action bursting off the screen and into the audience.
Elsewhere in the theme park, kids will discover six exclusive shields that unlock unique NEXO Powers within the LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS: Merlok 2.0 mobile app for iOS and Android devices.
NEW! LEGOLAND Night Lights – Summer 2016
The resort will debut its latest all-new event in June, a celebration of summertime fun featuring extended park hours, meet-and-greet opportunities with favorite LEGO characters, exclusive opportunities to build alongside LEGO Master Model Builders and a spectacular, brick-tacular NINJAGO fireworks display that will light the night above Lake Eloise with brilliant colors and triumphant music. Held exclusively at the Orlando LEGOLAND Florida Resort, the party is included with park admission and will take place every Saturday and Sunday from June 18 to July 31.
The exciting new projects represent the largest period of growth in the nearly 4½-year history of the Orlando LEGOLAND Florida Resort, a rapid trajectory of expansions that has included the Orlando LEGOLAND Water Park (May 2012), LEGO STAR WARS™ Miniland Model Display (November 2012), LEGO World of Chima™ (July 2013), DUPLO Valley (May 2014), the Orlando LEGOLAND Hotel (May 2015), Heartlake City (June 2015), and phased restorations of the historic Cypress Gardens botanical wonderland, which recently celebrated its 80th anniversary.

Florida Dept. of Transportation plans to cut travel time
The Florida Department of Transportation is working on plans to better transport Central Florida’s talent pool to where the jobs are — or visa versa.
Loreen Bobo told a crowd of business executives during Orlando Business Journal’s recent Business of Transportation event that the department is talking about some future roadway corridors that will either help establish new employment areas or help more efficiently create links between some of the major job centers and communities where the working population lives.
Bobo, who is FDOT’s construction program manager for the $2.3 billion I-4 Ultimate highway project, said these are some roadway priorities for Central Florida:
- Searching for options to better connect southeast Orange County, the home of Lake Nona’s 600-acre Medical City biotech hub, and Florida’s Space Coast in Brevard County.
- How to plan roadways for the new Wellness Way corridor south of State Road 50 in Orange County into Lake County, a corridor that’s expected to give rise to a high-wage, health care-focused employment hub
- Creating transportation options with a new bus-rapid transit project on U.S. Highway 192, one of the region’s busiest tourist corridors
With these plans to decrease travel time residents and tourists alike will reap the reward. With travel may be shortened investment homes for either short term rental or long term rental will get a bit more lucrative.

Great Investment Opportunity
Like Orlando, Florida can barely keep up with all the tourists wanting to visit and spend their vacations in the Sunshine State.
According to the Associated Press, Florida welcomed more than 105 million tourists last year— well above the 100 million tourist goal Florida Gov. Rick Scott wanted to see happen for the state. Scott is expected to be giving an official announcement for the figures today at Epcot.
Obviously, Orlando plays a huge role in the state’s tourism appeal by drawing more than 62 million visitors each year. The theme parks, hotel amenities, convention market and more all help to keep the region as the top leisure destination on the planet.
That’s also good for the $60 billion tourism and travel industry that services tourists and business travelers and will help to further make the region a prime investment spot for anyone wishing to get a piece of the tourism pie.

The tourism industry of Orlando, Kissimmee, and Davenport provides a great investment opportunity for seasoned as well as first time investors. This is no secret as Orlando recently was voted Number 2 for Top 10 2015 Real Investment Cities. If you are interested in purchasing a vacation rental home, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
