LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – New sights, sounds and flavors of spring will envelop Walt Disney World Resort guests beginning March 6 when the 26th Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival bursts into bloom. This year’s festival will be chock-full of lush new topiary whimsy, edible delights, gardens to play in and an expanded lineup for the Garden Rocks Concert Series.
The 90-day event continues through June 3, featuring dozens of Disney-crafted topiaries and beds of multi-colored blooms that will transform the Epcot landscape into a floral extravaganza. As just one example of this metamorphosis, nearly 70,000 festival blooms will surround the lakes in Future World, while on the water, hundreds of colorful mini-gardens will be set afloat. Here is a look at some of the discoveries guests will make this year:
Among the returning gardens and exhibits, guests will once again enjoy the Goodness Garden Butterfly House presented by GoGo squeeZ, where nearly 1,000 native butterflies will fly among the garden’s two dozen nectar plants.
Additionally, several World Showcase pavilions will include gardens with floral life representing plants from those countries, such as the Kokodema Garden and Bonsai Collection in Japan, the Urban Spice Garden in Morocco and the Alpine Container Garden in Germany. As festival-goers take in all these floral wonders, they will come across fine tastes to savor along their journey.
In addition to the Outdoor Kitchens, raised-bed or in-ground gardens of herbs and produce will offer the perfect inspiration for learning to grow healthy ingredients. Several Epcot food-and-beverage locations – including Taste Track and Refreshment Port – will offer festival-themed eats and libations. Additionally, guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner at 15 popular Epcot restaurants and guaranteed seating for a nightly concert with a Garden Rocks Dining Package.
Dining packages are now booking at FreshEpcot.com or by calling (407) WDW-DINE. Guided tours are also available for guests interested in learning more about nature’s magic. In Behind the Seeds – The Land, guests can explore the fish farm and four greenhouses that make up The Land at Epcot. Additionally, two guided experiences exclusive to the festival include:

CLERMONT, Fla. – Developers of the proposed Olympus sports complex told Clermont city leaders Tuesday that the project could lead to more than $1 billion in economic impact.
“The city is already known as an Olympic sports training destination,” Schmidt said. “This will further complement it with an array of opportunities for amateurs, collegiate athletes, Olympic athletes and professionals.”
Clermont City leaders got their first chance to look at plans to develop 250 acres in south Lake County, along Route 27 near Lake Louisa State Park. The land is currently an undeveloped orange grove.
The city’s economic development director, Shannon Schmidt, has been working with developers on the proposed Olympus sports complex for nearly two years.
“This city has not seen a development of this size or significance,” Schmidt said. “Olympus will become almost a city of its own with the amount of activity slated to be happening there.”
The recently unveiled private development would feature a tennis complex, aquatic center, several hotels, restaurants, health care facilities and other sports training facilities.
Developers said the complex will create nearly 6,000 jobs and pump m
ore than $1.4 billion worth of economic impact into the community over 10 years.
City leaders expect the developers to submit a proposal for annexation, as well as rezoning of the property and a large scale comprehension plan amendment, in September. Public hearings would then take place in October through the planning and zoning commission and city council.
The five-phase project is expected to get underway in 2019 and be finished by 2025.

The Fourth of July – also known as Independence Day or July 4th – has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution. On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.
Whether you are grilling out with your family, watching your favorite movies or making a trip to see the fireworks, we hope you are making the best of today!!

Daryl Hall (pictured, left) and John Oates are once again hitting the road for a summer tour featuring California soft-rockers Train that will stop in Orlando.
If this all feels a little too familiar, maybe you just read my other blog post about Erasure and you’re confusing your musical duos. Or maybe you’re remembering that last year happened and that during that year, Philadelphia’s famous twosome traveled this way with another fairly mellow touring partner, Tears for Fears.
And if you remember last year, maybe you remember that I spoke with Daryl Hall ahead of that show. The singer/songwriter of “Rich Girl,” “Maneater” and “Sara Smile” had plenty to say about the synthesizer revolution of the 1980s. “As a producer, I said let’s go with all these things,” said Hall. “My ears were open.”
And I just mentioned that same revolution in that blog post about Erasure. So either all of this is a massive coincidence (it is) or my writing has a profound effect upon what happens in the musical universe (it doesn’t).
If you can get the “Twilight Zone” theme song out of your head, Hall & Oates will perform at downtown Orlando’s Amway Center on June 26. Tickets, $46.50-$126 go on sale Monday, Jan. 29, at ticketmaster.
